The Bürgerstiftung St. Nicolai, founded on September 10, 2002, is a legally capable foundation under civil law and a church foundation within the meaning of the Lower Saxony Foundation Act. It provides long-term support for the vibrant community work of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Nicolai parish in Lüneburg. Its funding priorities lie in the integration of people with disabilities into church and society, youth work including confirmation classes, community engagement with cultural and social impact, the promotion of church music in the Lüneburg city churches St. Nicolai, St. Johannis, St. Michaelis, as well as in the Church of St. Marien, and in the preservation of the church and its art treasures. The foundation finances its work through donations and from the income of its capital stock, which grows and is maintained through additional endowments.

The Bürgerstiftung St. Nicolai is committed to inclusive and sustainable community work that brings together people with and without disabilities, empowers younger generations, fosters cultural initiatives, and preserves church traditions. Our goal is to maintain the Nicolaikirche as a place of lived faith and cultural diversity, enabling future generations to experience faith, music, and art within an open and vibrant community.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at members and groups of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Nicolai parish as well as partner organizations within the Lüneburg church district. In particular, the foundation supports projects and events for people with disabilities, children and youth, choirs and ensembles of church music, cultural initiatives within the parish, and measures for the preservation of the parish and its art treasures.
