About the funder

The Deutsch-Französischer Bürgerfonds was established in April 2020 and is an initiative that emerged from the Aachen Treaty of 2019. It is implemented by the Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) and aims to strengthen Franco-German friendship and European integration by supporting civil society projects. The Bürgerfonds supports a wide range of projects, from group exchange and individual projects to events and digital initiatives. Funding is provided in four categories, ranging from small amounts to large sums for flagship projects.

Mission & Vision

The Franco-German Citizen Fund aims to promote Franco-German friendship and make the European idea tangible to the broader population. It supports projects that strengthen civil society and foster cooperation between Germany and France at various levels. The Citizen Fund believes in the transformative power of encounters and exchanges between the civil societies of both countries.

Target groups

The target group of the Deutsch-Französischer Bürgerfonds includes non-profit associations, town twinning associations, local authorities, scientific institutes, educational and training centers, non-profit limited liability companies (gGmbHs), foundations, citizen initiatives, and informal groups. The fund is open to all civil society actors who wish to engage in Franco-German cooperation. Projects do not necessarily require language skills, and there are no age restrictions for applicants.
