About the funder
The State of Burgenland – Office of the Burgenland State Government, Department 10 Health Law, awards up to 50 monthly scholarships of €1,000 each within the framework of the Burgenland Medical Scholarship (BMS) to students of human medicine. The aim is to sustainably address the impending shortage of physicians in Burgenland through financial support and contractual commitment of young medical professionals to the public health system in the state. The funding covers the minimum study duration of 12 semesters plus two tolerance semesters and obliges the scholarship recipients to complete their clinical-practical year, specialist or general medical training, as well as a subsequent five-year full-time employment in the public healthcare sector in Burgenland.

Mission & Vision
The mission of the State of Burgenland is to ensure comprehensive and high-quality medical care throughout Burgenland. Through targeted investments in medical trainees and linking funding to subsequent professional practice within the public health system, young talents are to be recruited, supported, and retained in the region in order to sustainably counteract the shortage of physicians.
Target groups
Eligible to apply are students of human medicine at state-recognized European universities with their main or secondary residence in Burgenland. Both first-year and advanced students are supported – with the exception of scholarship holders at the Danube Private University. A prerequisite for application is the commitment to complete the clinical-practical year, specialist medical training, or general medicine in Burgenland, as well as a subsequent five-year service in the public health sector of the state.
