About the funder

The Silesian Museum in Görlitz is a foundation under civil law, established in 1996 by the Federal Republic of Germany, the Free State of Saxony, the city of Görlitz, and the Landsmannschaft Schlesien. It has developed into the central museum for the research of Silesia's cultural history in Germany. The museum collects, preserves, and presents tangible cultural heritage and provides information about the past and present of the cultural region of Silesia. Through exhibitions, events, and publications, it contributes to the public dissemination of Silesian heritage and to fostering understanding between Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Mission & Vision

The Silesian Museum in Görlitz aims to serve as the central institution for the research and presentation of the culture and history of Silesia in Germany. It is committed to effectively communicating historical and regional knowledge about Silesia to the public and to promoting cultural exchange and understanding in the tri-border region of Germany–Poland–Czech Republic.

Target groups

The offerings of the Silesian Museum are aimed at a broad audience: from culture- and history-interested visitors of all age groups to school and study groups, as well as scholars, researchers, and international cooperation partners. Special attention is given to cross-border projects with partners from Poland and the Czech Republic, as well as to members of the Silesian diaspora.
