About the funder

The Sebastian Cobler Foundation is a non-independent foundation administered by the Citoyen Foundation, based in Frankfurt am Main. Named after the criminal defense lawyer and constitutional jurist Dr. Sebastian Cobler, it is committed in the republican spirit to the protection and defense of constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights. The foundation promotes the education and upbringing of the general public in the spirit of the democratic state, supports those politically, racially, and religiously persecuted, refugees, disabled persons, as well as victims of fundamental rights violations. It implements its own projects such as scientific analyses, public awareness campaigns, symposia, conferences, artistic events, as well as the publication and subsidization of writings.

Mission & Vision

The foundation acts in the republican spirit and defends civil rights as enshrined in the Basic Law and the European Convention on Human Rights. It is committed to preserving the rule of law’s self-restraint towards citizens, intervening where state power seeks to restrict the rule of law, and securing each individual's right to informational self-determination.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Sebastian Cobler Foundation are aimed at individuals, groups, and organizations committed to democracy, fundamental rights, and civil rights. This includes associations and initiatives that promote political education, equality, tolerance, and the protection of human rights, as well as politically, racially, or religiously persecuted persons, refugees, disabled individuals, and victims of crimes involving violations of fundamental rights who require support in legal proceedings.
