About the funder
The Regional Planning Associations are public law corporations comprising the independent cities and districts of the respective Saxon planning region. According to the Saxon State Planning Act (SächsLPlG), they assume the state-mandated responsibility for regional planning at the municipal level. The governing bodies of a planning association are the association assembly, the planning committee, and the association chairman. The association's statutes regulate the legal relationships. The planning associations independently prepare regional plans within their regions, facilitate inter-municipal cooperation, and take into account the requirements of the State Development Plan and the regional plans.

Mission & Vision
The Regional Planning Associations are tasked with promoting spatial planning cooperation among local authorities within the planning regions in the interest of balanced regional development, developing regional development goals and strategies, and providing professional and organizational support for the preparation of regional plans. In doing so, they contribute to equitable public services, the strengthening of regional potentials, and the implementation of the cross-sectoral principles of the State Development Plan.
Target groups
The funding and planning activities of the Regional Planning Associations are directed at the independent cities and districts as well as their municipalities and municipal special-purpose associations within the Saxon planning regions. They provide support in the preparation and updating of regional plans, advise on spatial planning procedures, and cooperate with public authorities responsible for specialist planning matters and other actors in regional development.
