Description

The funding Waste Separation Containers at Educational Institutions supports public institutions, non-profit organizations, as well as interest groups and associations in Lower Austria in sustainably improving waste separation at schools and childcare facilities for children and youth. The focus is on school authorities of primary and secondary levels, operators of early childhood education facilities and after-school care, as well as municipal associations in Lower Austria. The goal is the installation of color-coded separation containers in classrooms, care, and common rooms according to statewide uniform designs. In this way, the program promotes not only the separate collection of residual waste, paper, packaging, and organic waste but also awareness of resource conservation and climate protection among the youngest.

Up to 25% of eligible investment costs are funded, but no more than €1,000 per educational institution per year. Eligible to apply are public and non-profit school authorities, operators of school care services, and Lower Austrian municipal associations. Applications must be submitted before the project starts; the funding initiative begins on March 1, 2025, and runs continuously. Eligible expenses include the acquisition of waste containers including stands as well as labeling with stickers. For approval, the completed application form, a tabular cost breakdown with quotes, a photo documentation upon completion, and for municipal associations a list of equipped institutions with cost details must be submitted. This measure lays the foundation for a long-term effective, statewide uniform waste separation system at educational institutions.
