Description
The ARF – IPCEI Microelectronics II supports companies based in Vienna that advance research, development, and demonstration in microelectronics. The goal is to build competencies in industrial strengths to sustainably enhance Europe’s competitiveness. Both research and development projects (RDI) as well as measures for first commercial use (FID) for specialized applications are funded. Special emphasis is placed on initiatives that contribute to climate protection—for example, in the field of power electronics and novel materials—as well as projects that secure Europe’s digital sovereignty, including photonic sensing, electronic-based systems, and secure connections. Investments in modern research infrastructure, such as laboratory facilities, measurement technology, and building infrastructure, are also eligible for funding. Financing is provided as a non-repayable grant and is supported by funds from the European Union (NextGenerationEU).
Companies with headquarters and project locations in Austria may submit applications until the budget is fully allocated. The deadline is open-ended and ends when the available funds are exhausted. A multi-stage selection process begins with the submission of a statement of interest, followed by the evaluation of a project portfolio by national and European experts. This funding aims to intensify research capacities, expand cross-border collaborations, and enable knowledge transfers to achieve effective spill-over effects. Participating project partners benefit from increased innovation capacity and contribute to achieving national and European climate targets as well as strengthening the digital economy.
