Basic compensation according to § 7 BThOG offers a permanent funding opportunity in Vienna for the direct compensation of the cultural policy mandate pursuant to § 2 of the Federal Act on the Reorganization of the Federal Theaters (BThOG) in its current version. Since January 1, 2013, this grant has been awarded without limitation and contributes to the sustainable anchoring of contemporary art in society. With a budgeted volume of 162.9 million euros, the measure focuses on stable framework conditions for artists as well as institutions of the performing arts. Public institutions in the cultural sector thus ensure the continuous implementation of essential cultural policy objectives and strengthen the cultural offerings in the federal capital.

Eligible for funding are theater companies, artists, and organizations that actively contribute to the stabilization and implementation of the cultural policy mandate. A prerequisite for a grant is a proposal to the Federal Chancellor regarding the allocation of the basic compensation by the Bundestheater-Holding GmbH. Ongoing applications can be submitted at any time without a deadline, ensuring flexible and needs-based planning. Through this continuous funding structure, the position of contemporary art is sustainably strengthened and a reliable framework for creative projects is created.
