Description
The annual performing arts funding of the State of Salzburg supports non-profit organizations, professional groups, companies, as well as individuals with multi-year, continuous operations and a clear connection to Salzburg. The goal is to secure and further develop a diverse program offering in the city and state of Salzburg. The focus is on original productions, world premieres, and revivals, as well as training and continuing education programs, workshops, and advisory and service offerings. By providing subsidies for touring and guest performance costs, new audience groups are reached and young local artists are supported in their artistic development. Particular appreciation is given to contemporary, socially and politically relevant repertoire components, innovative forms of performance, and networking with other Salzburg artists, especially in rural areas.
Eligible expenses are those incurred within a 12-month program: from new productions and further training to artistic infrastructure and guest performances. Institutions with predominantly commercial programs are excluded. Applicants must submit a fully completed, statute-compliant signed funding application including a concept, detailed financial plan, and supporting documents (e.g., association register excerpt, statutes). The annual activity must primarily serve the public interest and have a connection to Salzburg. Further funding is only possible after proper accounting of previous subsidies; proof of use must be submitted by April 1 of the following year. The submission deadline is at the end of June each year. Evaluation is based on established criteria such as degree of innovation, promotion of young talent, and audience expansion. With this transparent procedure, the State of Salzburg aims to sustainably strengthen the performing arts and contribute to the cultural diversity of the region.
