Decarbonization Premium

The Decarbonization Premium of the City of Vienna supports privately financed residential housing through a one-time grant upon the complete conversion to climate-friendly building technology. The goal is the decommissioning of gas connections in primary residences, thereby making an important contribution to climate protection and increasing energy efficiency. Owners and tenants of apartments in Vienna have been able to submit applications continuously since March 1, 2024. The funding covers all gas appliances such as gas stoves, instantaneous water heaters, and boilers, which must be professionally dismantled on site. The support aims to reduce CO₂ emissions as well as accelerate the transition to renewable heating systems.

Eligible applicants are individuals who provide a confirmation of the decommissioning of the gas metering point by Wiener Netze GmbH and prove their primary residence in the respective apartment. Tenants additionally require the consent of the property owner or property management. Required for the application are: the completed online application form for the Decarbonization Premium, the confirmation from Wiener Netze GmbH, and, if applicable, the owner’s consent. Submissions are possible without time limitation, allowing flexible planning of renovation and installation work. This funding facilitates the switch to renewable energy sources and makes an important contribution to the decarbonization of Vienna’s housing stock.
