Description

The "Monument Preservation (Bamberg Model)" program of the World Heritage City of Bamberg Foundation supports both private and publicly funded initiatives for the preservation of listed buildings in Bamberg's Old Town. With continuously available grants, the foundation promotes structural conservation measures, professional conservation, and restoration costs for historic buildings within the UNESCO World Heritage site. Eligible applicants include owners, custodians, as well as non-profit organizations and public institutions engaged in the protection and maintenance of architectural monuments in Bamberg. The goal is the long-term preservation of the urban identity and cultural heritage through quality-oriented and sustainable restoration projects.

For an application, proof of monument status and a detailed project description of the planned preservation measure are required, supplemented by cost estimates or quotes. The professional urgency, the quality of the restoration concept, and the long-term effectiveness of the planned measures constitute the central evaluation criteria. Funding is provided particularly for structural conservation and conservation work that secures the historical value of the building fabric. Through close cooperation with monument experts and the regular allocation of funds, the Bamberg Model makes a sustainable contribution to the preservation of the World Heritage. Interested project leaders receive comprehensive information and advice directly from the foundation to implement their restoration projects expertly and with a future-oriented approach.
