Description

DiscoverEU offers 18-year-olds from EU member states and associated Erasmus+ countries the unique opportunity to explore Europe by train – funded through a free travel pass. In two application rounds each spring and autumn, interested individuals can enter their ID card, passport, or residence permit number in the online form to qualify for participation. The program aims to promote European mobility and intercultural exchange by making the continent’s diversity, culture, and history tangible. At the same time, selected participants receive a DiscoverEU youth card, which provides numerous discounts for accommodation, meals, cultural visits, and learning activities. Requirements include a minimum age of 18 on the earliest possible travel day as well as citizenship or residence in one of the participating countries (including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or Turkey).

Beyond travel costs alone, travelers can claim expenses for accommodation, meals, transport, and educational or cultural offerings. Group registrations of up to five people are possible, provided all members meet the eligibility criteria and register using a common applicant code. Young people with disabilities or health impairments receive special support. The organization and on-site support are provided by the European Youth Portal in cooperation with the national Erasmus+ agencies. This offer not only enriches the individual travel experience but also fosters a strong network of young Europeans that connects across borders and creates future ambassadors for Europe.
