ERDF 21-27: Expansion of Research and Technology Infrastructure

With the ERDF 21-27 "Expansion of Research and Technology Infrastructure," grants are provided to strengthen Vienna as a forward-looking research and innovation location. Measure M1.1 specifically promotes investments in modern laboratory and building technologies, ICT infrastructures, as well as the establishment and modernization needs of research and technology centers. The goal is to support research institutions, universities, companies, and technology centers in developing excellent competencies in regional priority areas, accelerating the transfer of research results into practice, and enabling new startups of research-intensive projects. Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant and can be applied for projects whose implementation begins by December 31, 2029. The funding compass allows checking in which areas funding is available and what requirements must be met.

Eligible for funding are educational institutions, companies, and public entities based in Vienna that realize investments in the purchase and commissioning of laboratory infrastructure, the expansion or modernization of technology centers, and the establishment of efficient ICT infrastructures. Among others, expenses for scientific equipment, structural modifications, and network solutions to support research projects are funded. With a total budget of approximately 78 million euros, capacities are created to secure sustainable growth, innovation, and technological excellence in the region in the long term. Applications can be submitted continuously, and decisions on the award are made by the responsible authorities of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism, Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.
