Description
The EU initiative European Film Sales strengthens the cross-border marketing of non-national European films by supporting independent distribution companies with a financial grant. The aim is to intensify the transnational dissemination of European productions and to increase investments in production, acquisition, promotion, as well as cinema and online distribution. The funding is provided in two phases: first, a potential funding volume is calculated based on previous market performance. Subsequently, the funds must be invested in minimum guarantees and advances for sales rights as well as in marketing and promotional activities. The goal is to achieve measurable improvements in international distribution, a higher investment volume, and closer connections between the production and distribution sectors.
Eligible to participate are legal entities based in an EU member state that operate as independent European film distribution agencies and can demonstrate proven experience in distributing non-national films on the European market. Eligible expenses include minimum guarantees and advances as well as marketing and promotional costs for international distribution activities. Applications must be submitted electronically by 18 June 2026, 5:00 p.m. Brussels time. Required documents include the completed CREA MEDIA application form, an Excel list of film projects, proof of independence and ownership control, as well as box office data or corresponding database extracts. Selection is based on transparent criteria and a multi-stage evaluation process. This strategic funding offers distribution companies the opportunity to strengthen their global competitive position and to make European film even more visible on international markets.
