Description
The "Promotion of Film and Cinema Culture" of the State of Lower Austria offers financial grants for film productions with a factual or personal connection to Lower Austria as well as for cinema cultural institutions. Eligible applicants include private individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, and public institutions based in or conducting project activities in Lower Austria. Funding covers production costs, personnel and material expenses, post-production, and travel – up to 50% of eligible expenses, and under certain conditions up to 60% for co-productions. Advertising films, educational films (except final thesis films), and already completed projects are not funded. Selection is based on criteria such as cultural contribution, level of innovation, economic benefit, and the specific connection to Lower Austria. Applicants must demonstrate own contributions and third-party funding and contribute to securing the film cultural heritage in film archives.
The program aims to sustainably strengthen film production in Lower Austria – from short and feature films to documentary and animation projects, as well as art-house cinemas and film clubs. With an unlimited duration and the possibility to apply at any time, it supports both artistically ambitious art films and economically and touristically relevant cinema and TV productions. Required documents include, among others, the application form, project description, budget, financing plan, screenplay, crew and shot lists, as well as master data sheets. Through close support in all phases from the start of filming to final accounting, the funding contributes to revitalizing the cinema landscape and consolidating the professional infrastructure for filmmakers and cultural initiatives in the federal state.
