Description
Within the framework of the European Partnership for Brain Health (EP BrainHealth), research projects are funded that transnationally network biological, social, and environmental factors influencing brain health across the entire lifespan. At least three partners from three participating countries (including at least two EU member states or associated countries) collaborate in interdisciplinary consortia. The planned duration is up to 36 months with a funding rate of up to 70%. Eligible costs include personnel and material expenses, travel costs, equipment acquisitions, subcontractor services, as well as overhead. Non-eligible costs include, among others, the establishment of new cohorts and interventional clinical trial drugs. Evaluation criteria include innovation, interdisciplinarity, translational added value, patient and public involvement, as well as ethical aspects and data protection. Project outlines must be submitted by March 10, 2026, exclusively via electronic submission to the Joint Call Secretariat at the French ANR. Selected consortia will be invited to submit a full proposal, which will then be evaluated through international peer review.
The funding objective is to uncover mechanisms and interrelations that influence neurological, psychiatric, and sensory disorders in order to develop new approaches for diagnostics, prevention, and therapy. Research questions may address, for example, genetic predisposition, socioeconomic status, environmental exposure, or lifestyle parameters. Special emphasis is placed on translation into practice: the funding supports both basic research and close linkage with clinical applications and public health measures. Patients and affected relatives are actively involved in the research process to enhance the relevance and implementation of the results. This aims to ensure that innovative concepts rapidly reach care provision and contribute to improving quality of life.
