Description
The Spin-off Fellowship Program in Vienna promotes the early utilization of intellectual property from universities and research institutions. The goal is to enable individuals or research teams (Fellows) to focus 100% on the task of IP implementation during a defined funding period. Through a non-repayable grant, secured know-how is further developed into marketable applications and directly oriented towards a subsequent company formation. Continuous application submission is possible until the budget volume is exhausted, with the program being part of the special guideline “Spin-off Fellowships” of the Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy. The total volume amounts to €13.5 million for the funding period 2022–2026.
Eligible applicants are natural persons, companies, and educational institutions, provided that the underlying technology is fully owned by the hosting institution. A prerequisite for submission is a written letter of support from the host professor as well as an existing employment relationship at the project start. An individual implementation plan for IP utilization must also be submitted. Interested Fellows submit their electronic application via the FFG eCall portal. The funding is particularly aimed at scientists who intend to found a spin-off after completing the fellowship, thereby making a valuable contribution to Vienna’s innovation landscape.
