Description
The Joint Undertaking for a Circular Bio-based Europe (CBE JU) funds pioneering projects in the field of bio-based research and innovation within the European Union as well as associated Horizon Europe countries. The objective is to strengthen competitive bio-based industrial sectors by accelerating the innovation process, supporting the market introduction of mature solutions, and ensuring high environmental standards in bio-based value chains. Each year, the program managers publish open and competitive calls for proposals. The funding is provided as a grant and is thematically aimed at companies, universities, and research institutions planning application-oriented projects with a sustainable impact profile. Through close cooperation between the public sector and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), synergies are explored and innovation barriers minimized.
Interested stakeholders must demonstrate their establishment in the EU or in a country associated with Horizon Europe and participate in a current CBE JU call. The funding criteria include scientific excellence, contribution to the circular economy and climate, as well as the economic viability of the planned solution. Deadlines vary annually, with the latest calls published on the official platform. Eligible to submit are consortia of at least three partner organizations from different member states to ensure transnational cooperation and knowledge transfer. Through transparent evaluation procedures and clear guidelines, it is ensured that sustainable innovations reach the market promptly, thereby making a measurable contribution to the transformation of European industry.
