Description
Hope Kreuzberg (Café SehnSucht) has been offering a low-threshold contact point for people in precarious life situations in the heart of the multicultural neighborhood around Kottbusser Tor in Berlin for over seven years. The operator is a non-profit organization that continuously receives and flexibly utilizes grants – without fixed deadlines for applications. In a friendly atmosphere, between 60 and 80 hot meals are served daily, complemented by tea, coffee, and a listening ear for life stories. Through pastoral care and communal prayer times, homeless individuals, those struggling with addiction, and formerly incarcerated persons, as well as professional musicians and students, receive practical support with administrative matters and personal challenges. Community events at Easter, Christmas, and regular “Jesus Time” services promote cohesion and open up new perspectives.
The Hope Foundation supports the operation and equipment of Café SehnSucht as a long-term aid project in the fields of Social Affairs, Health, and Work & Social Services. The goal is to strengthen the individual well-being of visitors, alleviate hunger and loneliness, and build trust through appreciative attention. By awarding donations and grants, volunteers and professionals can offer their services from Monday to Thursday and respond flexibly to the changing needs of the neighborhood. Interested non-profit organizations can apply for funding at any time to further expand and sustainably enhance this proven model of street and homeless assistance in Berlin.
