Description

The Innovation Fund opens up nationwide pioneering opportunities for healthcare and health services research: companies, public and non-profit institutions, as well as educational providers can receive funding as consortium or individual partners to implement new forms of care within statutory health insurance. With an annual budget of €200 million, the Innovation Committee of the Federal Joint Committee supports projects of all kinds – from cross-sectoral models in structurally weak regions to telemedicine solutions and health services research with high potential for application in standard care. Independent scientific support and evaluation are prerequisites, as well as proof of professional qualification and prior experience, patient participation, and feasibility within a statutory funding period of up to 48 months. Both thematic and open-topic procedures allow for flexible project development, with up to 100% of eligible expenses – from personnel costs to material and travel expenses – being funded. Specific procedures with a short duration (up to 24 months) complete the offering and promise rapid pilot results.

After successful concept development or cost-conscious preliminary review, the selected applicants have access to two funding stages: the preparation of a detailed full application and – upon positive decision – the implementation phase with a duration of up to 36 months (in justified exceptional cases 48 months). Funding amounts and project design are individually tailored; forms and guidelines are available on the DLR Project Management Agency’s portal. Selection is based on relevance to care quality, implementation potential, and excellence in evaluation methodology. Transfer resolutions ensure sustainable impact: project reports and transfer recommendations are published to promote knowledge transfer into standard care, G-BA guidelines, or legislation. Application phases in 2025 start in January (New Forms of Care) and June (Health Services Research), with deadlines varying depending on the announcement. Further details, deadlines, and forms are available on the website at innovationsfonds.g-ba.de. Interested parties can subscribe to the free G-BA information service to receive up-to-date funding announcements and press releases at all times.
