Description
The “Literature: Individual Support” program in Vienna is aimed at authors, writers, and literary creators of all genres (prose, poetry, drama, essay) with Austrian residence or citizenship. Through a variety of scholarships and awards – including playwright, project, work, travel, and creation grants as well as book and author prizes (e.g., Robert Musil Scholarship, Mira Lobe Scholarship) – literary projects are supported that could otherwise not be realized or not fully completed. As direct grants from the Federal Ministry for Arts and Culture, these funds create financial freedom to implement creative concepts and sustainably enrich contemporary literary life. The annual budget amounts to approximately 1.5 million euros, taking into account the applicants’ own economic capacity. Applications can be submitted continuously or according to separate calls.
For the application, the general application form as well as the form for scholarships, acquisitions, and studios must be submitted. Requirements include proof that the planned project cannot be realized fully or partially without financial support and – depending on individual income – a personal contribution. Submissions are made to the responsible Federal Ministry, Arts and Culture Section, Concordiaplatz 2, 1010 Vienna. This funding line enables intensive exchange between creative professionals and expert panels, thereby further strengthening the literary diversity of Vienna and Austria. Interested parties can find comprehensive information on the legal basis, award criteria, and current calls on the Ministry’s website.
