Description
The measure “Regulation of tree species composition for the development of climate-resilient forests” promotes nationwide afforestation, stand maintenance, seed procurement, wildlife damage protection, as well as genetic quality assurance, in order to create stable, diverse mixed stands. The goal is to strengthen climate-resilient forest communities and biodiversity while optimally considering natural forest communities, as well as to preserve and improve genetic resources. Eligible for funding are private individuals, companies, cooperatives, interest groups, other associations, and public institutions such as managers of agricultural and forestry enterprises, forest owner associations, agricultural communities, local authorities, municipal associations, and forest plant producers. The project duration is up to 72 months; applications can be submitted online from February 1, 2021, until January 31, 2027, with disbursements possible until January 31, 2029.
The grant covers between 30% and 90% of eligible investment and material costs (including project-related personnel costs and acquisition of special equipment) and is limited to a maximum of €200,000 per manager per federal state. Conditions include, among others, that no funding from other public sources is available, at least 75% of the afforested plants correspond to the natural forest community, and that at least 75% native species are used in regeneration measures. For enterprises with 100 ha or more of forest area, a forest management plan or an equivalent instrument is required. To apply, a project description, the forest management plan, the completed master data sheet/client number form, and the eAMA registration confirmation must be submitted. Evaluation criteria include the proportion of native tree species, consideration of the natural forest community, the protective function of the area, as well as the economic efficiency and appropriateness of the project. This funding actively contributes to climate resilience and biodiversity promotion in Austria’s forests.
