Medical Scholarship of the Gisela and Joachim Labenz Foundation

The Gisela and Joachim Labenz Foundation supports medical students with a strong connection to the Siegerland region, thereby contributing to the sustainable provision of medical care in North Rhine-Westphalia. Funding is provided to individuals currently enrolled in medical studies who can demonstrate their roots or personal ties to the region. The program grants monthly subsidies of €300 over a minimum of two years, with the possibility of extension up to three years. Additionally, scholarship recipients gain access to an exclusive mentoring program, where experienced physicians – including Prof. Dr. Joachim Labenz and Dr. Gisela Labenz – offer professional guidance and individual career counseling.

The selection process is conducted by a five-member committee that makes decisions based on the submitted documents and regional affiliation. The funding primarily covers living expenses, enabling participants to fully concentrate on their studies. Applications can be submitted year-round, allowing for flexible planning throughout the course of study. Through this formal and continuous support, the foundation makes an important contribution to nurturing young talent in healthcare and specifically promotes incentives for young physicians to return to Siegerland in the long term. The initiative is explicitly aimed at private applicants who wish to commit professionally to the region and build their medical careers there.
