Description

This EU-funded research project targets companies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public bodies within the European Union that aim to pioneer in the field of quantum and classical-hybrid cryptography. The objective is to develop innovative cryptographic primitives and protocols beyond conventional quantum key distribution (QKD). Special emphasis is placed on the modular integration of diverse cryptographic approaches, the analysis of security and performance compared to classical methods, as well as the creation of a practical roadmap for deployment in future quantum-assisted networks. With a funding amount of up to €4 million and a funding rate of 100%, this call supports research and development activities from the concept phase through to initial prototypes and field tests. Eligible costs include personnel, material and travel expenses, as well as subcontractor costs. Legal applicants must demonstrate their financial and operational capacity and comply with EU exclusion criteria. Submissions are to be made by September 15, 2027, via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.

The selection process evaluates projects based on their level of innovation, economic potential, and implementation quality. Interdisciplinary consortia, in which quantum scientists, PQC, and applied cryptography experts collaborate, are eligible to apply. The work should focus on developing new quantum equivalents to classical methods, protocols for position verification, and approaches linking quantum computing and cryptography. A detailed roadmap draft is expected at the conclusion, outlining challenges, technical scaling options, and optimal hardware configurations for short- and long-term applications of future hybrid networks. Interested teams should use the standard HE RIA application form, include the CVs of the principal investigators, and provide a detailed budget table, submitting their applications on time. Results are expected to be announced approximately five months after the application deadline. This opportunity offers experts the chance to actively shape the next generation of secure communication networks.
