Practice subsidies for specialist physicians

In view of the current supply gap in Burgenland – especially in the specialized fields of psychiatry and pediatric and adolescent medicine – the state of Burgenland supports the establishment of specialist medical practices through an open-ended subsidy initiative. Since January 1, 2025, financial resources have been available to support both new establishments and takeovers of practices with a valid § 2 health insurance contract. The goal is to ensure comprehensive and sustainable specialist medical care across all disciplines throughout the entire state and to facilitate the start of practice establishment for specialists upon completion of their training. Eligible recipients commit to maintaining the practice in Burgenland for at least five years.

Eligible applicants are natural persons who have completed specialist medical training, hold a § 2 health insurance contract for a planned position as of July 1, 2019, and ensure the provision of an equivalent counter-performance by the municipality of residence. Eligible expenses include renovation and furnishing costs, technical and medical-technical equipment, as well as expenses for necessary contract arrangements. The maximum funding amount is up to €30,000, whereby corresponding co-financing by the municipality is required. For the application, proof of training, a copy of the valid health insurance contract, evidence of the municipal in-kind or financial contribution, and the completed application form must be submitted. Applications can be submitted at any time from January 1, 2025 – there is no deadline.
