Description
The Deutsche Bahn Foundation gGmbH supports nationwide non-profit organizations that initiate democracy-strengthening dialogue projects through the 2026 "PERSPECTIVE CHANGE" call for proposals. The aim of this funding is to bring together people aged 16 and over with diverse political views, experiences, and goals in interactive, personal encounter formats. Instead of a monological exchange of information, equal dialogues are at the center, in which participants change perspectives and jointly experience democratic co-responsibility. Projects that are demand-oriented, include rural regions, and integrate voluntary engagement are particularly supported. The Deutsche Bahn Foundation funds such initiatives as a non-retroactive grant, which must be implemented between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2027.
Requirements include recognized non-profit status in accordance with §§ 52 ff. AO and implementation in Germany. Purely online or monological formats will not be considered. Evaluation is based on the focus on citizens with diverse opinions, demand orientation, and the promotion of personal encounters to strengthen civil society cohesion. Applications had to submit the exemption notice and a detailed cost and financing plan via the portal. Although the application portal is now closed and 300 projects have been submitted, the large number of submissions highlights the strong interest in participatory formats that advance societal dialogue on equal footing and promote democratic awareness.
