Description

The PLENUM – nature conservation-oriented regional development of the state of Baden-Württemberg supports regional initiatives that protect and develop nature and cultural landscapes. In designated PLENUM areas, companies, private individuals, non-profit organizations, and public institutions can voluntarily submit projects that demonstrably achieve a positive nature conservation benefit. The goal is to preserve biological diversity through sustainable agriculture, forestry, marketing of regional products, environmental education, gentle tourism, as well as renewable energies. PLENUM relies on a bottom-up approach, in which citizens, land users, and regional stakeholders jointly shape nature-compatible usage forms and cycles, thereby strengthening jobs.

Eligible expenses include machinery and technical equipment, marketing and promotional measures, habitat management, species protection, and environmental education offerings. Evaluation criteria are the concrete nature conservation benefit, regional networking, economic viability, and the voluntary commitment of the project sponsors. Start-up funding supports all links in a value chain – from production to marketing. Thanks to ongoing application submissions, projects can be submitted at any time once conditions such as project location within a PLENUM area and proof of positive nature conservation effects are met. This integrative approach results in a sustainable strengthening of the regions and their ecosystems.
