Description

The award honors outstanding legal scholarship that advances the protection of plants, animals, species, and habitats through innovative concepts. In the dissertation category, a prize of up to €10,000 is awarded, while in the essay category, three prizes of €2,000 each are offered. Eligible submissions include dissertations completed since 2025 with first and second reviews available, as well as essays published in specialist journals or anthologies on nature conservation law. The evaluation criteria include the legal substance and quality of the contributions, their relevance to environmental protection, and the innovativeness of the proposed legal concepts.

Authors of dissertations and published essay authors have the opportunity to receive a one-time financial grant. Applications must include a PDF of the competition entry along with information on the author, title, and abstract of the contribution. The submission deadline is March 31, 2026. The aim of the funding is to support legal initiatives that significantly advance nature conservation and provide impetus for the further development of nature conservation legal frameworks.
