Description
The Gustav Adolf Foundation Bavaria has been supporting Protestant minority churches and diaspora congregations in Europe with permanently available funds since 2008. The focus is on social-diaconal initiatives, educational and cultural projects, as well as community development. As a grant provider, it particularly supports the training and further education of church staff to strengthen competencies locally and expand diaconal aid services. Projects in structurally weak, often rural regions benefit from continuous funding, which enables the maintenance and expansion of local educational offerings – such as Talentum schools, daycare centers, and youth clubs. Furthermore, cultural tasks and meeting places are supported that strengthen the coexistence of Roma and non-Roma families in Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, or Romania and promote cooperation within the Protestant diaspora.
Only non-profit institutions or public sponsors of Protestant minority churches in the EU are eligible for funding. The foundation awards grants continuously without application deadlines, so applications can be submitted at any time. The target groups include, besides the congregations themselves, their staff, children, and youth who benefit from a sustainably secured educational and cultural offering. Through financial support, long-term structures are created that are of central importance for social cohesion and democratic participation locally. Project selection is based on effectiveness on site and the potential to permanently strengthen diaconal and church work in the diaspora.
