Description

The BürgerStiftung Hamburg supports civil society actors based in Hamburg with project-related grants from several thematic funds. Eligible for funding are non-profit associations, interest groups, initiatives, small organizations, migrant self-organizations, and under certain conditions, also private individuals. Applications can be submitted online throughout the year; preliminary consultation at the Engagement Dock is recommended to identify the appropriate fund. The foundation places special emphasis on clear project structures, qualified project management, and active involvement of the target groups. The aim is to promote democracy, child and youth work, migrant engagement, the participation of people with disabilities, as well as other social issues, thereby sustainably strengthening cohesion in Hamburg.

Eligible expenses include personnel costs, materials, equipment, fees, travel, and event costs. A registered office or primary activity focus in Hamburg is required, as well as alignment with the goals of the respective thematic fund and recognition as a non-profit or charitable organization. The application must include a project description, financing plan, proof of non-profit status or reference association, and the completed online form. Decisions are usually made within a few weeks, depending on the fund and, in some cases, by volunteer expert advisory boards. With its broad thematic spectrum – from youth and educational projects to cultural initiatives and support for refugees – BürgerStiftung Hamburg offers diverse opportunities to put forward-looking ideas into practice and promote community spirit in the Hanseatic city.
