Psychiatric Family Care - Grant to Host Families

In the federal state of Upper Austria, the program “Psychiatric Family Care – Subsidy for Host Families” supports private individuals who take in people with permanent psychosocial support needs into their household community. Host families receive monthly contributions for the care and supervision of their guest. The goal is to open up new relationship opportunities, achieve full integration into community life, significantly improve quality of life, and provide a high degree of personal freedom for the mentally impaired individuals. The open-ended care contracts are concluded jointly by the host family, the support organization, and the person being cared for, and can be terminated by any party with appropriate notice. Professional support by psychosocial services is provided in the form of home visits, regular meetings of host families, and individual counseling on organizational or personal issues.

Expenses for care and supervision are funded, provided that admission complies with the requirements of the family pool. Eligible applicants are private individuals who can prove membership in the family pool and offer a suitable home environment. Funding can be applied for continuously without time limitation; the application period started on 05.11.2013. Interested households that can ensure a fundable care situation may apply at any time and thus make a valuable contribution to psychosocial rehabilitation.
