Description
Subsidy for the Pollen Information Service Salzburg supports the continuous monitoring of pollen counts at five measurement sites in the state of Salzburg. The objective is the scientific supervision, data collection, and analysis by the University of Salzburg, Department of Organismic Biology. Based on the information obtained, regional pollen flight calendars are created and pollen flight data are transmitted to broadcasters, the press, and medical institutions. The flat-rate fee covers 100% of all personnel expenses, office and material costs, as well as other operating expenses. There is no application deadline; the funding is ongoing and is paid annually in four equal installments to the operating institution.
A prerequisite for the grant is the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of the pollen traps by qualified personnel. Furthermore, the collection, evaluation, and storage of pollen flight data, as well as their forecasting and publication, must be ensured. An installed answering machine for data inquiries and the creation of morbidity and pollen flight calendars are also part of the funding tasks. Eligible for funding are educational institutions and public institutions, with particular focus on the Department of Organismic Biology at the University of Salzburg as the carrier and scientific authority. The measure makes a valuable contribution to environmental and nature conservation as well as climate protection by supporting the medical care of allergy sufferers and informing the public about seasonal peak exposure periods.
