Description

With the tariff subsidy according to the Lower Austria Biomass Promotion Act, the State of Lower Austria ensures the long-term continued operation of renewable energy plants based on solid biomass and biogenic waste. Eligible to apply are companies and private individuals with a location in Lower Austria whose original funding period under the Renewable Energy Act 2012 expired or will expire between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2019. Since September 1, 2019, applications can be submitted without a deadline, enabling continuous funding and sustainable strengthening of regional value chains in the forestry and waste sectors. With a duration of 36 months, the grant contributes to energy efficiency, climate protection, and supply security.

The tariff remuneration is based on the rated capacity and amounts to 11.20 ct/kWh for plants up to 2 MW, 9.65 ct/kWh for 2–10 MW, and 9.26 ct/kWh for installed capacity above 10 MW. Plants with a waste share receive a tariff reduced by 10%. Prerequisites include uninterrupted continued operation, feed-in to the public grid, and compliance with technical standards. Application documents include, among others, an offer specifying primary energy sources and fuel utilization efficiency, technical plant data, forecasted feed-in quantities, a 36-month raw material concept, as well as evidence of particulate matter reduction and heat metering operation. Additionally, full load hours of the last five years and the date of termination of the previous purchase agreement must be submitted. Through these comprehensive requirements, the measure guarantees efficient, environmentally friendly production of biogenic electricity and supports operators in the long-term planning of their energy projects.
