Description
Cost-of-Living Related Housing Security in Vienna
This funding program supports privately renting tenants in Vienna who have fallen into arrears due to increased rent or energy costs and whose continued residence in their home or energy supply is thereby at risk. One-time cash payments are provided to cover existing rent arrears, flat-rate moving allowances, as well as assistance with settling energy cost arrears and reminder fees. Eligibility requires a primary residence in Austria in an apartment of a non-profit housing association, the inability to cover the arrears from own funds, and the threat of housing loss or energy disconnection due to the cost-of-living increase. Applications can be submitted until 30.09.2026.
Funding Objectives and Procedure
The aim is eviction prevention in accordance with § 1 para. 1 no. 1 LWA-G through unbureaucratic, one-time grants for housing security or relocation as well as energy security. Processing is carried out through recognized counseling agencies, which complete the application form together with the applicants and submit the necessary documentation – photo ID, registration certificate, proof of income, proof of energy and rent arrears. Payments are made directly to creditors or, in exceptional cases, to the affected persons. This measure prevents housing loss, ensures social participation, and avoids energy poverty.
