Animal Custodian Funding in Upper Austria is aimed at associations, non-profit organizations, and private individuals who operate stray animal custody facilities in accordance with the statewide requirements for species-appropriate care. The program supports initiatives continuously from 01.01.2021 until the exhaustion of funds. It offers financial grants for the establishment and operation of custody centers, promotes measures to prevent suffering, and ensures the rapid placement of sheltered animals with qualified new owners. In doing so, the state of Upper Austria makes a significant contribution to strengthening the regionalized supply and to the positive coexistence of humans and animals.

The focus is on the dissemination of animal welfare-relevant knowledge, the integration of hard-to-place animals into existing facilities, and the reduction of bottlenecks in stray animal custody. Applicants must submit a project outline, a financing plan, and a proof of use to meet the funding requirements. The goal is the consistent implementation of the Animal Protection Act, the promotion of energy-efficient solutions, and the assurance of species-appropriate animal husbandry in Upper Austria. Experts from the Directorate of Social Affairs and Health accompany the process and ensure a professional evaluation of the submissions. Through the combination of expert advice and financial support, a sustainable improvement of animal custody capacities is achieved, and animal welfare in the federal state is decisively strengthened.
