Description
The mentoring program WEICHENSTELLUNG promotes equal opportunities for children and adolescents in Germany by supporting them at four key educational transitions: from kindergarten to school, from primary to secondary school, from the international preparatory class to the regular class, and during the transition to vocational training and employment. The focus is on 4th-grade students who are identified by the school administration or class teachers as deserving of support and in need. Through counseling services and training sessions, participants acquire individual skills that help them overcome obstacles and confidently shape their own educational path. The program emphasizes sustainable support over two years, thereby providing long-term stabilization of the young people’s learning and life situation.
The project is funded as non-material support by the Jürgen Sengpiel Foundation in cooperation with the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS. Applications are submitted in a standardized manner at fixed deadlines via the website weichenstellung.info, where exact dates and application documents are available. Participation in the program is free of charge and exclusively aimed at individual students who meet the specified criteria. Mentors from educational and social science degree programs assume a trusted role and offer regular supervisions, training, and professional coaching. In this way, WEICHENSTELLUNG not only provides young people with targeted support at critical transitions but also contributes to sustainably improving their social participation.
