Description

The reintegration allowance supports ill employees in Vienna in gradually returning to their profession by compensating for income loss due to temporary part-time work. After a minimum of six consecutive weeks of sick leave, a reduction of working hours between 25% and 50% can be agreed upon with the employer. The health insurance then provides a subsidy for up to nine months equal to the reduced working hours, calculated based on the previous sickness benefit. In this way, financial bottlenecks are avoided while promoting professional and health stability.

To qualify for the subsidy, an uninterrupted employment relationship of at least three months is required. Additionally, a medical certificate confirming work ability from the start of reintegration as well as a detailed agreement between employer and employee regarding the scope, duration, and timing of the part-time employment are necessary. Occupational medical consultation and the chief medical officer’s approval by the health insurance provider complete the application process. Applications can be submitted continuously, ensuring a flexible return to work.
