About the funder

The Darmstadt Sports Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sports in the city of Darmstadt and the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. Founded on October 6, 1982, the foundation aims to support hardship cases in sports and to promote youth projects in clubs and schools. With an endowment of nearly half a million euros and over 300 members, including clubs, municipalities, cities, the district, as well as individuals, the foundation can distribute up to 25,000 euros annually. The foundation is particularly committed to children and youth work and has been awarding the Youth Promotion Prize to clubs from the region since the mid-1990s. Another central concern is supporting individual athletes, officials, or clubs that have fallen into hardship due to accidents or disasters.

Mission & Vision

The Darmstädter Sportstiftung is committed to promoting socio-political understanding of sport while simultaneously providing a safety net for members in need of assistance. The foundation believes in the transformative power of sport and aims through its work to strengthen the independence, performance capacity, self-confidence, and personal responsibility within sport. A particular concern is the support of hardship cases, such as that of the paraplegic gymnast Johannes Hablik, as well as the promotion of children’s and youth work through awards like the Youth Development Prize and the Siegfried Schmitt Prize.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Darmstadt Sports Foundation are aimed at sports clubs and other organizations in Darmstadt and the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. The foundation supports projects that pursue an innovative approach and contribute to sporting and social diversity. Funding is directed at individuals and groups who wish to explore new paths and enrich the sporting landscape. Eligible to participate are all organizations that have initiated special sporting activities or, as sports clubs, have offered and implemented special projects since early 2022, which have made a significant contribution to conflict resolution, crisis management, and the maintenance of an active, sport-related, and socially responsible life.
