About the funder

The Fritz and Hildegard Berg Foundation within the Donors' Association was established in 1988 based on the testamentary disposition of Hildegard Berg from Cologne. The purpose of the foundation is to promote medical science and research. With its funding program launched in 2011, "City of the Future: Healthy, Sustainable Metropolises," it encourages idea competitions and interdisciplinary projects between health, urban, and environmental research as well as natural, technical, and social sciences. Structural and research formats (e.g., professorships, institutes, junior research groups) are funded with up to €150,000 per year, as well as smaller project ideas with up to €10,000 per year. The foundation's assets amount to approximately €8.5 million, with an annual funding volume of about €300,000.
