About the funder
The Helmuth von Glasenapp Foundation was established in 1964 based on the legacy of the Indologist and scholar of religious studies Helmuth von Glasenapp. It is legally domiciled in Wiesbaden but is operationally represented by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hanneder at Philipps University Marburg. The purpose of the foundation is to promote German research on India, particularly through grants for the publication of cultural-historical works as well as financial support for study trips, travel scholarships, colloquia, and digital projects. Furthermore, in cooperation with the German Oriental Society, it awards an Indological research prize.

Mission & Vision
The Helmuth von Glasenapp Foundation is committed to strengthening and promoting German research on India. Its goal is to enable the publication of scholarly works through targeted financial support, to fund research trips, and thereby contribute to the sustainable development and visibility of Indology in Germany.
Target groups
Funding is primarily provided to researchers, students, and institutions of Indology in Germany who plan cultural-historical publications or wish to undertake Indological research trips. Target groups include individual project initiatives, editorial collectives of renowned Indologists, doctoral candidates, and post-docs, who are enabled to expand their scholarly work through subsidies for printing costs, travel grants, and awards.
