About the funder

The Stiftung Daheim im Viertel is a non-profit private foundation based in Munich. It was established by GIMA München eG – an association of more than 35 housing cooperatives and socially oriented housing companies. The foundation permanently secures affordable housing by transferring residential properties into its core assets and managing them on a long-term basis under fair conditions. Furthermore, it promotes civic engagement and non-profit projects in Munich neighborhoods and the surrounding areas. Its focus areas include supporting neighborhood initiatives, intercultural encounters, youth and elderly care, ecological projects, cultural and scientific promotion, as well as social science research on vibrant neighborhood concepts. Since 2022, the foundation has awarded prize money totaling 50,000 euros as part of the Munich Neighborhood Award.

Mission & Vision

The Daheim im Viertel Foundation is committed to ensuring that people in Munich and its surrounding areas find a safe, affordable, and livable home on a permanent basis, and that neighborhoods are strengthened through civic engagement. It supports initiatives and projects that enliven community life in urban districts, enable cultural diversity, and develop sustainable neighborhood concepts.

Target groups

The target group of the foundation includes, on the one hand, property owners who wish to place their residential property under nonprofit management on a permanent basis to ensure affordable housing. On the other hand, the foundation addresses nonprofit organizations, associations, and initiatives, as well as committed neighbors in Munich’s city districts and surrounding areas. It particularly supports projects with an intercultural, intergenerational, or ecological focus, as well as scientific studies and research work in the field of social neighborhood development.
