About the funder
The German Depression Aid and Suicide Prevention Foundation is a non-profit private foundation based in Leipzig. It was established in 2008 to promote science and research in the field of depression, disseminate knowledge through training and campaigns, and support artistic and cultural activities on the subject. Together with the nationwide network "German Alliance Against Depression," it works to improve care for the approximately 5.3 million people in Germany affected annually by treatable unipolar depression. Through public information services, training and counseling measures for multipliers, as well as research projects and funding programs, it aims to enhance treatment quality and contribute in the long term to reducing suicides (approximately 10,000 annually) and suicide attempts (approximately 150,000 annually).

The foundation is committed to intensifying awareness about the condition of depression, advancing research, and establishing evidence-based care services. Our goal is to support people with depression and their relatives, train professionals, and raise public awareness in order to sustainably reduce suicides and suicide attempts.
Target groups
The funding and information services are aimed at individuals affected by depression and their relatives, professionals from medicine, psychotherapy, and counseling, multipliers (e.g., police officers, chaplains), schools, teachers and young people, research institutions and early-career researchers, as well as organizations wishing to implement self-help, art, and cultural projects in the field of depression.
