About the funder
The Union Foundation is a non-partisan, non-profit foundation based in Saarbrücken. It is one of the largest non-governmental promoters of culture and education in Saarland and has supported projects and initiatives since its inception in the fields of civic and democratic education, international understanding, European integration, as well as science, research, and culture. In addition to flagship projects such as the Perspectives Festival, the Saar Music Festival, and the Max Ophüls Film Festival, it annually funds both established institutions and small, locally rooted initiatives, having provided financial resources amounting to approximately €500,000 over the past two years, supplemented by special funding of €70,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mission & Vision
The Union Foundation aims to strengthen a robust democratic culture in Saarland, promote international understanding, and support science, research, as well as art and culture within municipalities, associations, and political institutions. It sees itself as a platform for societal debates, civic engagement, and cross-border cooperation in the Greater Region.
Target groups
The funding programs of the Union Foundation are aimed at a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including cultural practitioners and event organizers in Saarland and the Greater Region, schools and educational institutions in the field of civic and democratic education, scientific and research-related institutions, as well as municipalities, associations, and local networks. Projects and initiatives that contribute to cultural diversity, political education, and European understanding are supported, whether by individuals, groups, or institutions.
