About the funder
The von Nyegaard Foundation is a testamentary-established, non-profit private foundation that has operated a vibrant communal living arrangement for single women since 1901 at Max-Brauer-Allee 127 in Hamburg-Altona. It was founded in 1885 by Hedwig von Nyegaard with the aim of providing widows and daughters of impoverished officers, civil servants, clergy, as well as other women from educated classes, with long-term affordable and age-appropriate housing. The listed "Schloss" currently houses around 70 individual residential units and is jointly managed with Wichern Baugesellschaft mbH. The foundation places great emphasis on communal coexistence, individual development, and social support in everyday life.
