1000 Trees for Cologne

The initiative "1000 Trees for Cologne" by the Cologne Green Foundation enables citizens, associations, foundations, companies, and other community-oriented actors to donate a street tree in Cologne for €1,200 each. The City of Cologne and the Foundation cover the remaining portion of the average planting costs amounting to €2,800, thereby ensuring professional site preparation, planting, and two years of maintenance. Each donated tree contributes to improved air quality, increased CO₂ sequestration, and the strengthening of biodiversity, while sustainably enhancing the urban landscape. With an individual donor plaque – including a personalized inscription – the commitment is made visible and the personal connection to urban greenery is documented.

Interested parties can select an available planting site at any time via the online tree list and submit a completed donation agreement along with the payment receipt to the Foundation. A one-time contribution of €1,200 per tree guarantees immediate planting in winter or spring. Thanks to the flexible sponsorship model, formal requirements are waived, allowing both individuals and organizations to contribute to green preservation with ease. Upon receipt of the donation, a legally valid donation receipt is issued, and the selected tree is marked as "donated" in the list. The Cologne Green Foundation and the City of Cologne coordinate and carry out the planting and support the tree’s initial growth phase through the first three-year establishment period.
