Action Eyes Open

The "Action Eyes Open!" initiative by the AWO Foundation Active for Hamburg targets elderly and needy individuals with low income and health limitations in various Hamburg districts. Coordinators from both full-time and volunteer staff organize visits in Eimsbüttel, Lokstedt, Stellingen, Steilshoop, Schnelsen, Barmbek Nord, Altona-Nord, and Lurup to professionally support socially disadvantaged persons who often live isolated in their homes. The aim of the initiative is to improve quality of life through individualized care and holistic support solutions and to promote aging with dignity. Support is provided on a long-term and continuous basis, with each measure tailored to the specific need for assistance. Eligibility for funding applies to all private individuals residing in Hamburg who wish to benefit from the initiative. Applications can be submitted at any time, as there are no fixed deadlines.

Within the scope of the funding, coordinators handle the application for care services, organize emergency call systems, and mediate additional social services such as household help. Approximately 25 volunteer staff members are engaged in the visiting service and act as trusted conversation partners. Support is provided in kind in the form of professional services, networking, and expert exchange. Applications can be made informally; direct contact with the AWO Foundation Active for Hamburg is sufficient to receive assistance. Through this uncomplicated application process and ongoing allocation, the "Action Eyes Open!" initiative contributes to reducing isolation and sustainably strengthening community life in Hamburg’s neighborhoods.
