Description
The action program “Water Balance PLUS” of the Nature Conservation Fund Foundation Brandenburg provides funding totaling five million euros to adapt landscapes in Brandenburg to climate change. Applicants such as water maintenance associations, districts, cities, and municipalities can apply for grants at any time and cover up to 100% of eligible costs. Funding is primarily provided for construction measures for water body development, accompanying plantings, and planning costs (e.g., studies or HOAI services). Culverts can be removed, bank reinforcements dismantled, and structural improvement elements such as deadwood introduced. Key criteria for project approval are sustainability aspects, contribution to climate adaptation, and the practical feasibility of the measures.
Eligible projects must be located in the state of Brandenburg and require a fully completed application form as well as statements from the lower nature conservation authority and, if applicable, the protected area administration. The program is equally aimed at public and private sponsors implementing projects for renaturation and water retention. Applications can be submitted from December 12, 2025, and project commencement is also possible from this date. The foundation recommends familiarizing oneself with the funding guidelines early to plan project ideas according to needs and sustainably stabilize the landscape water balance.
