Description

The ARF – Quantum Austria Funding Initiative supports companies, educational institutions, public and non-profit organizations in Vienna in establishing excellent R&D infrastructures and projects in the field of quantum research and quantum technology. Funding is provided for investment as well as setup and commissioning costs for projects with a duration of up to 36 months. A prerequisite is the application by a BMBWF-registered entity in Vienna and compliance with the Quantum Austria special guidelines. Small and medium-sized enterprises can receive up to 60%, research institutions and non-economic organizations up to 70% of the eligible costs. The goal is to position Austria competitively on an international level in the fields of quantum physics, quantum computing, and next-generation high-performance computing. Applications are submitted exclusively electronically via the eCall platform, with deadlines valid until March 31, 2026.

The funded projects are intended to enable transformative basic research and advance quantum technologies for the development of innovative products and services. Evaluations are based on criteria such as innovativeness, quality of planning, potential for cooperation and visibility, as well as strategic relevance for quantum technology in Austria. In addition to the project description and online cost plan, annual financial statements for the last two fiscal years and a sworn declaration regarding SME status must be submitted. If a project meets the formal requirements and convinces in the content review, funding is disbursed in several installments – staggered according to project progress. Interim and final reports including accounting must be submitted punctually. Progress is documented through technical reports and interim accounting to ensure transparent allocation and targeted implementation.
