Description

The renovation of the Vienna Museum of Folk Culture is being funded under the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGeneration EU) with a budget of €25 million as a non-repayable grant. The aim of the investment is a heritage-appropriate, ecological modernization and a significant increase in energy efficiency. The "Federal Guidelines for Building Culture" are applied alongside holistic quality criteria and contemporary participation processes. The funding is directed to the Federal Real Estate Company (Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft m.b.H.) or the responsible public authorities tasked with planning and implementing the measures, ensuring a close integration of monument protection and sustainable construction. The project duration spans 54 months, with final completion by June 30, 2026.

Applications can be submitted from January 1, 2022, as long as the funding volume has not been exhausted. Eligible funds must be used exclusively for the renovation of the Museum of Folk Culture and are managed by the Arts and Culture Section of the responsible Federal Ministry. This initiative creates a model project that makes both modern monument preservation and energy and climate protection approaches visible. It strengthens the cultural infrastructure in Vienna and establishes optimal conditions for a contemporary museum operation.
